Susumu Kamijo

Poodles

Poodles, Susumu Kamijo’s first publication, presents 48 brightly-colored drawings of poodles, based on images sourced from the Internet and dog-centric magazines. The various poodles convey subtle emotive impressions as informed by their color scheme and line-work—some appear majestic, others coy, and some more wary. Regardless of the feeling generated by each artwork, Kamijo’s combination of pastel pencil and oil pencil renders the poodle in a prismatic and playful manner.

The publication includes an interview between Jonas Wood and Kamijo who met as MFA students at the University of Washington in 2000.
